Bart Sanders van TU Eindhoven wint Upcoming Scientist Award 2016

Afgelopen week heeft de derde editie van de conferentie Innovation for Health plaatsgevonden over innovaties in de gezondheidszorg en Life Sciences in WTC Rotterdam. Achttien jonge wetenschappers hebben middels een poster hun onderzoek kunnen presenteren aan het record-aantal bezoekers en een 2 minuten pitch gegeven aan het jury panel. Bart Sanders van Technische Universiteit Eindhoven heeft met de beste poster presentatie de Upcoming Scientist Award gewonnen.

The third edition of Innovation for Health took place yesterday in WTC Rotterdam. Bart Sanders won the Upcoming Scientist Award 2016 for the best poster presentation. The winner received a voucher of €1000,- from Genmab, the sponsor of the award.

About the research of Bart Sanders
With almost 300,000 annual interventions worldwide, valve replacement is the most common treatment for valvular heart disease. Bart Sanders’ research focuses on improving tissue engineered heart valves, which has the potential to last a life-time without additional medication or interventions, unlike the currently existing prostheses. By using computational simulations to improve the geometry of the tissue engineered heart valves, the study resulted in the first successful in-vivo implantation of such valves in sheep with one-year follow-up, which is a major step forward towards future clinical translation.

Jury
The jury panel consisted of a team of experts from various disciplines: Paul Parren of Genmab (chair and biomedical expert), Henk Lokhorst of VUmc (medical expert), Joost of SCICOMVISUALS Bakker (visual and communication expert) and Elizabeth Vroom of the Duchenne Parent Project (patient perspective expert). The jury panel was impressed with the multi-disciplinary approach of the research and the potential of its application. Bart’s presentation was selected as a winner out of 18 poster presentations within the theme of Life Sciences and Health.

En heb brede medische kennis van de meeste specialismen in de zorg. En van de zorgwetten waaruit de zorg wordt geregeld en gefinancierd. Ik ga jaarlijks naar de meeste toonaangevende medisch congressen in Europa en Amerika om mijn kennis up-to-date te houden en bij te blijven op de laatste ontwikkelingen en innovaties. Momenteel ben doe ik een Master toegepaste psychologie.
