FIP Stakeholder Ronde Tafels: beter gebruik maken van het huidige onbenutte potentieel van apothekers

In de FIP gisteren waren er Stakeholder rondetafelconferenties. Belangrijkste voorbeelden werden voortgebracht die laten zien hoe het realiseren van het onbenutte potentieel van de apotheker kan leiden tot meer verantwoord medicijnen gebruik. Dit verantwoord gebruik resulteert in gezondheidswinst en het vermijden van 500 miljard USD in de uitgaven voor gezondheidszorg per jaar wereldwijd.

Stakeholders hebben ook gesproken over maatregelen die moeten worden getroffen om deze resultaten te realiseren. Professor Jane Halton, secretaris van het Gemenebest afdeling van de Health and Ageing, Australie, legde uit dat apothekers absoluut fundamenteel in het helpen van patienten te verwerken hun eigen gezondheid en medicijnen informatie.

In de Roundtable over Therapietrouw benadrukte Durhane Wong-Rieger, voorzitter van de Internationale Vereniging van patientenorganisaties (IAPO) dat onder professionals in de gezondheidszorg, patienten hun apothekers het meest vertrouwt, maar apothekers moeten nodig hebben om hun patienten te zien als partners.

Deze en de volgende discussiepunten zullen in de algemene aanbevelingen die zullen worden gebruikt als basis voor discussie voor morgen ministeriele top over de toegevoegde waarde van Responsible Geneesmiddelen Gebruiksvoorwaarden – Instellen van het beleid voor betere en kosteneffectieve gezondheidszorg.

De voormalige minister van Volksgezondheid van Nederland Ab Klink, wees erop dat het veranderen van onze vergoeding systeem  een must wordt. De apotheker moet niet worden betaald voor de hoeveelheid medicijnen die wordt afgegeven, maar voor de kwaliteit van hun zorg.

Vanuit de industrie oogpunt, Jack Watters, Vice President External Medical Affairs van Pfizer, erkent dat de farmaceutische industrie een verantwoordelijkheid heeft om het probleem van de patient therapietrouw aan medicijnen gedurende het gehele proces van geneesmiddelen ontwikkeling, onderzoek en het gebruik.

Michel Buchmann, voorzitter van FIP: “FIP dringt bij ministers aan de toegevoegde waarde van de apotheker te zien, zoals ook blijkt uit de IMS rapport. Wij streven ernaar om te werken met beleidsmakers om ervoor te zorgen dat apothekers zijn op de frontlinies van de zorg in toenemende verantwoordelijk medicijnen over de hele wereld te gebruiken. ”

Amsterdam, October 2 – In today’s FIP Stakeholder Roundtables key examples were brought forth that demonstrate how realising the untapped potential of the pharmacist can lead to more responsible medicines use. This responsible use results in health gains and avoiding 500 billion USD in healthcare spending per year globally.

Stakeholders also discussed measures that need to be in place to realise these results. Professor Jane Halton, Secretary of the Commonwealth Department of the Health and Ageing, Australia, explained that pharmacists are absolutely fundamental in helping patients process their own health and medicines information.

In the Roundtable on Adherence Durhane Wong-Rieger, chair of the International Association of Patient Organizations (IAPO) stressed that among healthcare professionals, patients trust their pharmacists most but pharmacists must need to see their patients as partners.

These and the following discussion points will feed into the overall recommendations that will be used as a basis of discussion for tomorrows Ministerial Summit on The Added Value of Responsible Medicines Use – Setting policies for better and cost-effective healthcare.

The former Minister of Health of the Netherlands Ab Klink, pointed out that changing our reimbursement system is a must. The pharmacist should not be paid for the amount of medicines being dispensed but for the quality of their care.

From an Industry perspective, Jack Watters, Vice President External Medical Affairs of Pfizer, acknowledges that the pharmaceutical industry has a responsibility to address the issue of patients adhering to medicines throughout the process of medicines design, development and use.
